Film Editor · American
Jerry Greenberg
1936–2016
Won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for The French Connection — and earned it in those six minutes beneath the Brooklyn elevated railway. Greenberg cuts on movement rather than logic. His edits arrive at the moment of maximum impact and leave before the moment resolves. The viewer is perpetually slightly behind events.
Also known for: Apocalypse Now (1979), Kramer vs. Kramer (1979), Heaven's Gate (1980), The Untouchables (1987)
