John Sturges
1910–1992
One of Hollywood's most accomplished directors of action and spectacle — responsible for The Magnificent Seven (1960) and The Great Escape (1963) — Sturges was Steve McQueen's original choice to direct Le Mans. His departure during the troubled production, as creative tensions with McQueen and the demands of the real race environment escalated, left Lee H. Katzin to complete the film.
Also known for: The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Great Escape (1963), Bad Day at Black Rock (1955)
